Good morning ladies!
We have lots of birds on our property since all the cats have been gone for a while now. It used to be rare that we would see any birds at all, and although we could hear them they didn’t come close. Now we have little yellow finches, downy woodpeckers, nuthatches, just to name a few. We have several bird feeders that we keep filled, so we have constant visits from all kinds of feathered friends.
The other day the baby yellow finches were chasing each other through the trees. They are pretty tiny. One of the babies flew into the window by the kitchen and I heard the sound of the thud. I went out to see if it was ok, expecting to find it dead. It was breathing.
Just a few days earlier the mother was feeding the babies and caring for them in the nest. Now it was on the deck totally stunned by what had happened and not looking well at all. It was in the shade so I left it to recover, checking on it every few minutes. It finally got up and sat there with its head down for a long time.
There have been many times that we have rescued birds, some make it and some don’t.
This little guy finally recovered and flew away into the trees. I was pretty happy with that outcome.
This morning I was thinking about how big God is.
The Word says in Psalm 33 – “by the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind, from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth – he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.”
Psalm 135 “He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth, he sends lightening with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses”. That’s pretty big.
There are so many more verses that talk about the greatness of God. He is bigger than we can ever imagine, having created all things. He continues to create, as he is the creator of all hearts. He is everywhere all at the same time. He is in charge of the nations. He never sleeps. He doesn’t have to put one person on hold while he attends to another.
Jesus was speaking to his friends about His Father and said “not even a sparrow worth half a penny can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid, you are more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows.
Sometimes we get other ideas in our head about who God is.
Is He interested in me today? Does He see what’s going on right now? You bet he does!
Psalm 34:15 says “the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry” Psalm 68:19 says “praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens.”
We are not to be afraid of what lies ahead, but trust in the unfailing promise of God who is big enough to create the whole universe, and still keep an eye on each one of us. Not only that, but He hears our cry and daily bears our burdens.
When that little yellow finch hit the window, God saw it happen. Imagine that!
You and I are worth far more to God, so why should we worry?
Have a blessed week, and know that the Father is watching over you!
